Back in 2005 the forces for good took on the forces of evil in a head to head, this resulted in the apocalypse (way to go good guys). Gateways opened all over the world each leading to a different dimension and demons pored forth.
The fight that followed was short and bloody resulting in the decimation of the human race (current population estimate for britton 10,000), most of the humans who survived ended up being enslaved by the demonic forces some of who where taken off world.
The government struck up a deal with the demonic forces (most of the agreement has been kept secret) and the large cities know as "humanity safe zones" are no longer attacked by the demons.
Most of the infrastructure has been destroyed so anyone not captured by demons or able to get to (or possibly not wanting to get to) the "humanity safe zones" have grouped together and formed smaller villages or camps. It became clear that not all the demons where evil and some joined the humans to protect them.
One such is a Troll called Ranove who has set up a Mercenary camp that is open to all, the local villages send jobs over and (for a price) Ranove and his Champions sort the problems.
